Sam Kerr’s return to action for Chelsea is still a few weeks away, according to head coach Sonia Bompastor. The Matildas captain has been recovering from an ACL injury she sustained in January 2024, which sidelined her for the rest of the season and the Paris Olympics.
While ACL recoveries vary, most players typically return within 9 to 14 months. Kerr recently rejoined the Matildas in a support and training role, giving her a much-needed mental lift as she continues her rehabilitation journey.
Bompastor highlighted the emotional value of Kerr being around her national teammates and family, calling it an important step. However, she made it clear there’s still no firm date for when fans can expect to see Kerr back on the pitch.
Despite the delay, Kerr remains hopeful. She’s just one goal away from reaching 100 for Chelsea and says that milestone makes her return even more meaningful. “Scoring my 100th goal will be special,” she told the BBC.
