Serena Williams Reveals a Sport She Wishes She Had Tried, 2 Decades After Dominating Tennis

Serena Williams is a tennis legend, with a career spanning nearly two decades that cemented her place as one of the greatest athletes of all time. With 23 major titles and 319 weeks as World No. 1, her accomplishments are unparalleled. Despite her deep love for the sport, Serena admitted that, even after retiring three years ago, she misses playing tennis regularly. However, surprisingly, she now has a different sport she wishes she had explored during her career.

In an interview from last year, Serena discussed the emptiness she felt after stepping away from tennis following the 2022 US Open, where she bid farewell in front of her home crowd. She explained that while pregnancy gave her a different focus for a while, she now feels a strong desire to return to the court. But, instead of tennis, Serena revealed that she’s been captivated by the sport of pillow fighting.

She posted on her Instagram about watching a Pillow Fight Championship match and shared her enthusiasm: “How have I not been a pillow fighter? Look at this, this is amazing. Wow. Wow. Wow.” The Pillow Fight Championship, which launched in 2021, has grown rapidly and is gaining popularity in the U.S. Although this sport wasn’t around during her tennis career, there’s no telling if Serena might take it up someday.

While Serena’s tennis career is behind her, her older sister, Venus Williams, continues to compete. Venus, who’s 45, recently received a wildcard entry into the US Open, which could be her final appearance there. Despite not planning to retire soon, the passage of time has made it more challenging for her to keep up with younger players.

Venus was also honored by Barbie, who introduced her as the latest Inspiring Women doll. Serena shared her admiration for this gesture on Instagram, proving the deep bond between the two sisters. As Venus takes to the court in New York, Serena will be cheering her on, ensuring her sister has a memorable experience at the tournament.
