Serena Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam champion, recently began cryotherapy to boost her health and recovery. Known for her intense fitness journey post-retirement, she hoped the therapy would aid muscle recovery—but faced an unexpected challenge.
Cryotherapy involves exposure to extremely cold temperatures, often below -100°C, to reduce inflammation and speed healing. Serena gave it a go, documenting her experience for fans with photos inside a cryo-chamber. However, she could only endure 2 minutes and 45 seconds.
Wearing protective gear, Serena admitted in her Instagram caption that the extreme cold overwhelmed her: “I was trying to make cryotherapy, couture. Failed.” Her expressions in the photos reflected the discomfort she felt during the session.
Despite her brief attempt, Serena remains determined. The tennis legend, who boasts 73 titles and 39 Grand Slams, might be retired from the sport—but she’s still chasing challenges, even when they come in the form of freezing temperatures.
