Former tennis standout Camila Giorgi has unexpectedly stepped back into the public eye, making a glamorous red carpet appearance at the Venice Film Festival over the weekend.
The 33-year-old Italian, who retired from professional tennis in May last year, returned to her home country amid lingering controversy.
Giorgi had previously been accused of leaving Italy to avoid authorities over alleged tax evasion and unpaid rent claims—allegations she has firmly denied.
Since walking away from the sport, the former world No. 26 has largely stayed out of the spotlight.
After retirement, she shifted her focus to lingerie modelling, a pursuit she had already been juggling alongside her tennis career. Her sudden exit from the game, however, came at the same time as reports of financial disputes, which kept her name in the headlines.
That silence ended in Venice, where Giorgi turned heads on the red carpet in a striking white, sequin-covered gown, marking her most high-profile public appearance in months.
Following her retirement, Giorgi relocated to the United States. Reports later claimed she owed six months’ rent on a villa near Florence and was attempting to dodge Italian tax officials.
Giorgi dismissed those accusations, calling the rent claims “laughable” during an appearance on Italian talk show Verissimo last October.
She also rejected suggestions that she had “disappeared” or fled Italy to escape scrutiny, insisting the narrative surrounding her move abroad was misleading.
Now, with her appearance in Venice, Giorgi has once again found herself firmly back in the spotlight—this time far from the tennis court.
