The new, surprising hobby Nelly Korda enjoys to help keep her mind off golf

TARZANA, Calif. — Being the world’s No. 1 golfer comes with pressure, but Nelly Korda has found a fun way to take her mind off the game — building Legos.

The LPGA star recently revealed her new hobby on social media while in Las Vegas for the T-Mobile Match Play Championship, where she missed advancing to the Round of 16. During her downtime, Korda and fellow golfer Stephanie Kyriacou put together Lego sets, including flowers and birds.

“I’ve always loved Legos, but I only really started this year,” Korda explained at the JM Eagle LA Championship. “It’s something that keeps me busy. When you don’t feel like reading or watching TV, this is another way to relax. It’s really detailed and keeps your mind occupied.”

Korda admitted she sometimes struggles with sets labeled for younger kids, laughing about how difficult they can be. “Some say 9 and up, and I’m like, how are 9-year-olds doing this when I find it challenging?” she said. “Steph and I did three sets during the Arizona event. Once we finished one, we just kept going.”

She has even made it a personal tradition to leave a completed Lego set behind at Airbnbs she stays in during tournaments, despite her sister Jessica joking about how pricey the hobby can be. Among her favorites so far is a Lego orchid, while at home in Bradenton, Florida, she’s currently working on a lion. On Instagram, she’s asked fans to suggest her next project and even teased Lego about sponsoring her and Kyriacou’s building sessions.

Korda now heads into a busy stretch of her season. She’s playing in Los Angeles this week at El Caballero Country Club before defending her Chevron Championship title at Carlton Woods in Texas, where she made history last year with five straight tournament wins. And knowing Korda, she’ll likely be building something big in the Lone Star State too.
