U.S. Open 2025: Jordan Spieth’s 70 included 5 birdies, 5 bogeys. He’d gladly take 3 more rounds just like it

Jordan Spieth kicked off the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont with a rollercoaster round of five birdies and five bogeys, settling for an even-par 70. The three-time major winner said he’d gladly accept three more rounds like it.

Despite the even score, Spieth admitted the round felt better than the number showed. He struggled with speed control on Oakmont’s treacherous greens, a challenge even for one of golf’s premier putters. Still, his ball-striking gave him chances throughout.

Spieth gained strokes in every key area, especially approaching the green, where he ranked top 10. Though he hit 13 greens in regulation, his 31 putts were a reflection of Oakmont’s brutal slopes and deceptive reads.

Frustrated but optimistic, Spieth emphasized his overall form and mindset remain strong. “I think I would’ve signed for it three more times,” he said, knowing steady play like Thursday’s could keep him in contention all weekend.
