“Well deserved”: Jamie Murray makes history after becoming the first British tennis star to play a thousand tour-level matches

Jamie Murray has reached a remarkable milestone, becoming the first British tennis player to compete in 1,000 tour-level doubles matches. The achievement came at the BNP Paribas Open, where he and Adam Pavlasek secured victory over Ariel Behar and Robert Galloway.

The 39-year-old admitted he hadn’t realized he was close to the mark until recently, saying he thought he had only played about 800 matches. Murray described the feat as proof of his longevity and resilience on the professional circuit.

Sharing his pride online, he thanked the ATP Tour and reflected on how far the sport has grown since he began competing in 2007. He expressed gratitude for the chance to continue playing among the world’s best.

Murray’s career highlights include becoming the world’s No.1 doubles player and winning 34 titles, including the Australian Open and US Open in 2016. Though often compared to his younger brother Andy, Jamie has established himself as one of the greatest doubles players of his era.
