When will Sam Kerr return for Chelsea? ACL injury timeline for Matildas star

Sam Kerr remains sidelined for Chelsea as she continues recovering from an ACL injury suffered in January 2024. The Matildas captain is not expected to return before the April 2025 international break, according to Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor.

ACL recovery times vary, but most athletes return within 9 to 14 months. Despite being named in Chelsea’s Champions League squad, Kerr has yet to be cleared for full competitive action, though she is training again.

Matildas coach Tom Sermanni confirmed Kerr will miss the April international window but is progressing steadily. Her primary goal remains returning to club football before rejoining the national team setup.

When Kerr does return, her next goal will be her 100th for Chelsea. The forward, who joined the club in 2020, says that milestone will be an emotional moment and a rewarding step in her comeback journey.
