Chelsea and Matildas star Sam Kerr remains sidelined due to her ongoing ACL recovery, with no exact return date confirmed. Head coach Sonia Bompastor revealed that Kerr is still “a few weeks away” from returning to full match fitness.
Kerr suffered the ACL injury in January 2024, forcing her to miss the latter half of Chelsea’s season and Australia’s campaign at the Paris Olympics. ACL injuries typically require 9–14 months of recovery, with 12 months being the average.
She recently rejoined the Matildas in a non-playing capacity for friendlies, a move Bompastor said was crucial for Kerr’s mental recovery. Reconnecting with teammates and family was seen as an encouraging step in her rehabilitation process.
Kerr, who joined Chelsea in 2020, is eager to return and reach her milestone 100th goal for the club. “It’s going to be such an amazing moment,” she said, expressing excitement about her comeback and future achievements.
