Lamens, currently ranked No. 64, broke into the top 100 after winning the 2024 Japan Women’s Open. She also earned her first Grand Slam main draw win at the 2025 Australian Open, showing steady progress in recent months.
The 25-year-old arrives in Madrid with strong clay-court momentum. She recently reached the Rouen Open semi-finals, defeating Bianca Andreescu and Linda Noskova, and performed well in Billie Jean King Cup matches.
This will be Raducanu and Lamens’ first meeting. With Raducanu ranked 22 places higher, she enters as the favorite. The winner is set to face Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk, seeded 24th, in the second round.
