Michael Greller, famed caddie to Jordan Spieth, has celebrated many career milestones, including three major championships. Yet, he recently claimed that his family’s “greatest sports achievement” belongs to someone else—his older brother, Tom Greller.
Tom, a 53-year-old medical device salesman, qualified for the U.S. Senior Open, marking his first-ever USGA championship. Taking a break from work, Tom is competing at the Broadmoor, with Michael proudly by his side as a supportive sibling.
“He works full-time and barely had time to practice,” Michael told NBC Sports. “He got through sectionals against pros. For him, it’s just a hobby—which makes this even more impressive.”
Michael is used to pressure-packed moments with Spieth, but watching his brother tee it up has brought a different kind of emotion. And while it’s tough watching family compete, it may just be a refreshing change from PGA Tour intensity.
