“Chelsea celebrate Sam Kerr goal” Gallery: Sam Kerr returns to help Blues beyond Villa

The performance produced by Chelsea at Villa Park was far from the best of the Sonia Bompastor era, but the 3-1 victory will live long in the memory of supporters thanks to the debut of Alyssa Thompson and the goalscoring return of Sam Kerr.

Aggie Beever-Jones had put the Blues in front against Aston Villa with a close-range header. However, the home side hit back before the interval as Ebony Salmon guided an excellent 20-yard shot over the head of Hannah Hampton and into the top corner.

Hampton had to make two fine stops to keep Chelsea level in the contest, but then came the response of champions as we re-established our lead in the second half when Keira Walsh managed to squeeze a shot home, via a deflection, from a Blues corner.
In the 75th minute, Kerr was introduced from the substitutes’ bench. It was her first competitive appearance in 634 days due to a knee injury sustained in January 2024. Naturally, it wasn’t long before the Australian made her mark.

As the game moved into its 93rd minute, a Chelsea corner resulted in a scramble inside Villa’s six-yard box. Kerr reacted fastest to divert the ball into the net and celebrate her 100th goal for the Blues. It was the perfect return.

The goal also ensured back-to-back wins for Bompastor’s side at the start of the Women’s Super League campaign, and you can view our favourite images from a good afternoon’s work in the Midlands below…

The mountain whispered doubt as Lindsey Vonn carved through icy winds in Val d’Isère. At 41, many thought her fire had faded. Yet she flew, fearless, claiming another podium and reminding the world that time bows to those who refuse to quit, even when the cold bites hardest.

Days later, her path led to the grand stage of the Winter Olympics. Fifth time, same hunger. She stood tall, not just as a skier, but as a voice. “They’ll say you can’t,” she told the young, “but belief is louder than doubt.”

She remembered the falls, silent battles, unseen scars. On World Mental Health Day, she spoke of hidden struggles, urging hearts to check on one another. Strength, she said, isn’t just speed on snow, but courage to rise when life knocks you down.

So her story travels beyond mountains, into every dreamer’s soul. Fall, rise, repeat, this is the climb. Believe louder than fear, and keep moving forward.

Lindsey Vonn stood before a new horizon, not on snow but on a stage. From icy slopes to global screens, her voice had grown as powerful as her speed. Now, USC Annenberg called her to inspire a generation ready to tell their own stories.

She once raced mountains, fearless and fast, conquering all five alpine disciplines. Pain followed glory—crashes, surgeries, and scars—but she never disappeared. Instead, she documented every step, turning struggle into strength, and silence into storytelling that millions could feel and understand.

Her gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics made history, but her resilience made legacy. Beyond medals, she built pathways for girls through her foundation, proving victory isn’t just about winning races—it’s about lifting others as you rise.

On May 15, 2026, in Alumni Park, her words will echo louder than applause. Introduced by Sophie Flay, Vonn won’t just speak—she’ll remind graduates that their stories, like hers, are worth fighting for, shaping, and sharing with the world.
